Airport to Town / Beaches

1. Airport Buses Airport Bus provides transportation service between Phuket International Airport and Phuket town. The fares range from 30 to 100 baht, depending on the distance. A bus leaves at 1 to 1.30 hour intervals. The buses depart Phuket International Airport to Phuket Bus Terminal from 08:00 to 20:30 hrs. There is airport bus service to Patong, Kata and Karon beaches too.
2. Vans From Phuket airport, there are van services to Phuket town, Patong beach, Kata and Karon beaches too. Tickets for vans are available from counters in the Arrivals hall. These vans sometimes stop off at travel agencies along the way, where they will try to sell you tour packages. Ticket prices per person are - Phuket Town: 120 baht / Patong Beach: 180 baht / Kata/Karon Beach: 200 baht
3. Car rental There are car rental counters in the Arrivals hall and outside the airport. Please make sure to take along your passport and international driving license.

Getting Around in Phuket

1. Blue open-air buses (large songthaeos) run regularly from Ranong Road near the market to various beaches. The fares range from 15 - 30 baht. The buses leave at half-hour intervals from 07.00 to 17.00 hrs. After that, you must hire a taxi (tuk tuk). The fare must be agreed on before departure.
2. Phuket Smart Bus offers alternative transfer service for locals and tourists.
   The smart bus services from Phuket International Airport to Rawai beach. The smart bus mostly supports the west coast of the island and passes many popular beaches such as Patong, Kata, Karon, Bangthao, Kamala and Rawai. The buses operate from 06.00 – 20.00 hours. The fares range from 50 – 170 baht. Passengers need to purchase an e-money “Phuket Rabbit Card” or “Smart Card” to pay for their fares.
3. Taxis, tuk tuks, and motorcycle taxis are also available everywhere. The fare should be negotiated beforehand.
4. Cars & Motorcycles Rental Private cars, jeeps and motorbikes can be hired from any car rent shops in town or at major beaches. Normally, the rates can be bargained for a long-term rent. For either car or motorcycle rental, make sure that the rate includes insurance coverage. If you choose to ride a motorcycle, don't forget to wear a helmet; otherwise you will be fined.

There are regular bus services to neighbouring provinces such as Krabi, Phang-nga, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Surat Thani, Satun, Hat Yai and Trang. Departures are from the Phuket Bus Terminal on Thep Krasattri Road. Phuket Air-con Bus Station, tel. 0 7621 1977.

There are shared taxi and van services between Phuket and other nearby provinces. Fares of both are generally around double the fare of an ordinary bus. The stations of minivans are also on Thep Krasattri Road.

Many ferry services are available from Rassada pier, the main pier of Phuket, only 10 min. drive from Phuket town. There are ferries operating between Phuket and Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang, and Koh Lanta. You can easily buy your ferry ticket through a tour agent which will include transfers to and from the pier. Apart from the big ferry boats, there are also speedboats, long tail boats and fishing boats operating from Rassada.

Boats can be hired for trips to other nearby islands. The main areas for hiring are Chalong Pier and Rawai with fares depending on the number of passengers, distance, length of time and type of boat. Besides, most travel companies in Phuket operate tours of islands around Phuket.
