Thai Smile and Bangkok Airways operate daily flights from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Chiang Rai. Air Asia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air operate flights from Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport to Chiang Rai. The flight takes about 1.15 hrs.
By Bus
There are air-conditioned bus services from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (or Mo Chit) on Kamphaengphet 2 Road. The journey takes about 11 hrs.

By Car
Take Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road), turn to No. 32 passing Ayutthaya, Angthong, Singburi, change to No. 11 passing Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phrae, then turn left to Highway No. 103, drive on until passing Ngao district and turn right to Highway No. 1 which takes you to Phayao and then to Chiang Rai. The whole distance is 785 km.
By Train
There is no direct train to Chiang Rai. You have to take a train to Lampang
(9 hrs. from Bangkok) or Chiang Mai (11 hrs.) and then take a bus to Chaing Rai. (2 hrs. from Lampang and 1.30 hrs. from Chiang Mai)
