Overview

This is the biggest and busiest shopping district in Bangkok, where almost all kinds of goods are on sale, including cloth, clothes, jewellery, handicrafts, books, antiques, etc. There are several large department stores located here, and also several shopping arcades and countless smaller shops as well as a dozen of cinema theatres and mini theatres. So you can satisfy all your needs if you stay in one of over a dozen first-class hotels in the area. The area is easily accessible by skytrain.

Location

The shopping venue starts from the junction of Rama I Rd. and Phaya Thai Rd. to Ratchaprasong Intersection (Rama I Rd. and Ratchadamri Rd.) and continue up north to Pratunam. Most of them are easily accessible by skytrain and linked by a skywalk.

Jim Thompson House

This remarkable Thai-style wooden house once belonged to the late Mr. Jim Thompson, an American silk entrepreneur residing in Thailand. The house, now a museum, displays Mr. Thompson's splendid collection of Asian artefacts and antiques.

Brahma Shrine

Located in front of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, the shrine is always crowded with both Thai and foreign devotees of the Brahma, who come to make a wish. Wooden carved elephants or classical dances along with traditional Thai music will be presented as votive offerings by the devotees when their wishes are granted.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Baiyoke Sky Hotel or known as Baiyoke II Tower is the tallest building in Thailand. The building is 309 metres tall with 2,060 stairs from bottom to top. From the revolving deck on the 84th floor visitors can enjoy the vast panoramic view of Bangkok.

Huge and trendy food courts are also a good dining option in the area. And similar to other areas in Bangkok, street stalls are scattered throughout.

Nightlife

The area is more suitable for shopping; it doesn’t offer much about night entertainment. Just a few pubs and bars are located here.
