The map of the
Bangkok Metropolis Area shows the busiest central
part of the great city of Bangkok, including all
the important government offices, foreign embassies,
international organizations, banking and financial
establishments, hotels, department stores, shopping
centres, cultural institutions and public places
of entertainment.
The map also includes the areas where major bus
terminals, railway stations, expressways, express
boat landings, cross river piers, skytrain and
metro routes, Bangkok International Airport and
Suvarnabhumi Airport are located.
Road Index
As there are more than a hundred main
roads in Bangkok, the road index will help you
find the location of a specific area easier by
identifying the position where a specific road
is situated.
The index mainly comprises
the roads in Bangkok's tourist areas. The names
of the roads are also given in Thai in an attempt
to help you communicate with the Thais or taxi
drivers who can't speak English, simply by showing
them the Thai name of the road when you need help.

| Rattanakosin
Island - Old town - Chinatown Map |
|
The
Rattanakosin Island area is the formerly walled town
surrounded by waterways -- the Chao Phraya River
and the Old Moat -- and so known as the Old Town.
This section covers the areas
of 'Inner Rattanakosin' and 'Middle Rattanakosin'
in the map, marked with blue and pink colours respectively
(see the symbols indicating the colours of the
different areas in the box on the lower part of
the map). Situated here are the Grand Palace, the
Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the Temple of the
Reclining Buddha and a few other famous Buddhist
temples, the Giant Swing and sections of the ancient
city walls.
The Chinatown area is located just to the southeast
of the Old Town in the 'Outer Rattanakosin' area
in the map, marked with green colour. Major roads
are Yaowarat, Chareon Krung, Song Wat and Sampheng.
It is an early settlement of Chinese immigrants who
were moved here from the Old Town at the time of
establishment of Bangkok as the new capital. It is
still a thriving commercial area particularly well
known for its dozens of gold shops.
