TAT receives PATA’s Travel Poster Awards

On 25 July
2007, The Pacific Asia Travel Association
(PATA) officially declared that two of the
Tourism Authority of Thailand’s posters have
won the Marketing Media (poster) Awards. The
two posters are Window on the Glorious Past
(The reclining Buddha in Phutthaisawan Temple)
and Ayudhaya’s Ancient Roots (A Buddha image’s
head in a tree). |

Bangkok Won the Best International Destination
Award 2007
|
Bangkok has won The Tourism
Award from Libur & Traverama, Malay monthly
magazines distributed in Malaysia, Singapore,
Brunei and Indonesia. Out of 350,000 votes,
more than 50% of the readers cast their ballots
to Bangkok as the Best International Destination
of the year 2007. The plaque has recently
been presented to Mr. Wiwatchai Bunyaphak,
the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand
Kuala Lumpur Office. This is the second time
for Thailand after Koh Samui, an island in
the South won this award last year. |

Phuket voted Asia’s Maritime Capital
Phuket has won Asia’s Maritime Capital at the
3rd Christofle Asia Boating Award for its first-class
boating facilities, including modern marinas,
state-of-the-art boatyards, and prime chartering.
The province has also been praised for its remarkable
recovery from the 2005 tsunami. According to Phuket’s
governor Niran Kanlayanamit, Phuket is aimed at
becoming the new marina hub of Asia. |

Thailand was voted one of the most popular destinations
for Chinese
National Geographic (Trend Traveller) Magazine
China has done an online survey with more than
10,000 votes from January to February 2007. Among
57 countries around the world, Thailand, France,
and the Netherlands are the most popular destinations
for Chinese tourists.
The Golden List Award was given
on April 18, 2007 and Mr. Amnuai Thiamkun, the
director of The Tourism Authority of Thailand
Beijing Office was the representative to receive
this award. |

Thai
shadow puppetry troupe won the Unesco Award
Thai shadow puppetry troups of Wat Khanon, Ratchaburi
Province received the Safeguarding of the Intangible
Cultural Heritage Award from the Unesco for its
role in conserving Thai shadow puppet performance.
This kind of puppet performance is called “Nang
Yai” in Thai. It perfectly combines dancing,
“Piphat” traditional music, and “Khon”expressive
chanting with the puppetry and is usually performed
in various episodes of the Ramayana epic. At present,
there are only 3 large troupes of this kind in
Thailand.

Thailand is now Irish’s Favourite Destination
At
the end of January 2007 in the ITTN Awards Event
held at Dublin, Ireland, by Iris Travel Trade
News, Thailand received the “Best Asia/Australia
Destination” Award.
The votes for Thailand were
higher than those for Australia, New Zealand,
Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
The ITTN Awards has been organized
for 15 consecutive years. And Thailand was nominated
twice – in 2002 and in 2007.
The
Irish target market is a potential one with a
steady growth. The 2006 statistics for the period
between January and April show that 16,518 Irish
tourists visited Thailand, an increase of 14.48%
from the same period of 2005.

Bangkok received the Best City Destination for
Leisure award 2007
On
14 February 2007, Mr. Chaloemsak Suranan, the
director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand
Hong Kong Office, was the representative to
receive the Destination Readers Choice Awards
2007. Bangkok won this award in the field of
the Best City Destination for Leisure. The awards
are based on the DestinAsian Magazine readers’
votes throughout the Asia-Pacific Region.
According to
the received award, Bangkok is an outstanding
city because it has a wide range of delicious
food, many kinds of entertainments and colourful
nightlife, and a variety of choices for attractions
and shopping malls. Besides, Bangkok provides
tourists with beautiful Thai culture and impressive
services. So, it gives the best value for tourists’
money.

Swedes Vote Thailand the World’s Most Popular
Travel Destination
A monthly
travel magazine of Sweden, Res, conducted a survey
of the world popular travel destinations for the
Swedish in the year 2006. Thailand won the first
ranks in the categories of the most popular tourist
destination, the most popular food, and the most
popular shopping attraction. Phuket, a province
in the south of the country, also won the first
rank as the most popular tourist destination for
those who travel by a charter flight. Meanwhile,
the second ranks went to Lanta Island and Krabi,
both places located in the south of Thailand. |
Tourists
vote Thailand the country of the best value for
travelling
Tourism
Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported that according
to Country Brand Index Award 2006 (CBI), Thailand
has been voted to be the Best Country Brand for
Value for Money. This research has been done through
online questionnaires and phone interviews with
over 1500 people, combining with asking some travelling
experts from all over the world.
With 11.52 million visitors in 2005, Thailand
had 367,380.36 million baht income from all tourism
related businesses. The average staying was 8.20
days per person and the average spending per person/day
was 3,890.13 baht. |
Bangkok
and Phuket voted “Favourite Holiday Destinations”
in Asia
Ms. Ueamporn Chirakanwisan, Director of TAT Singapore,
recently revealed that Thailand is still a preferred
holiday destination in the Asia Pacific region.
According to a survey conducted by TIME Magazine
from April to June 2006, more than 1,000 readers
chose Bangkok and Phuket the third and second,
respectively, best destinations in the region
after Bali.

Bangkok and Chiang Mai ranked best tourist cities
in Asia

Bangkok
has been voted the Best City in Asia in
2006 (as the fifth consecutive year) according
to an Internet survey conducted by Travel+
Leisure Magazine. At a global level, Bangkok
is the third Best City in the World with
86.11% votes, after Florence (87.09%)
and Rome (86.15%). |
What's
more, Chiang Mai, known as the Rose
of the North of Thailand came in as
the second Best City in Asia and the
fifth at a global level.
On 6 October, 2006, Mr. Apirak Kosayodhin,
Bangkok Governor, received the prestigious
award from Ms. Nancy Novogrod, Senior
Vice President & Editorial Director
of Travel+Leisure Magazine.

Metropolitan Administration's Spokesman
also added that the fact that Bangkok ranked
best city in Asia for the fifth time is
a guarantee that Bangkok is a beautiful
metropolis with unique and charming arts
and culture, high-quality delicious food
and attractive shopping opportunities.
